Friday and Saturday experiences

07 Oct

Friday was a quiet as Becky and I enjoyed most of the day on the back porch looking at the mountains and reading. Late in the afternoon our friends Scott and Becky Kent arrived from North Carolina to spend a couple of days with us. We spent the evening in Gatlinburg after eating at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. @BubbaGumpCo .

Saturday morning we awoke to rain and clouds that couldn’t decide whether to stay high above the mountains or slide down over them. The pictures below are an early morning shot and a late afternoon shot of somewhat the same angle off the back porch. Mountains had disappeared.

After everyone woke up we decided to try one of the many pancake houses here in the mountains. With a quick search on trip advisor we decided to try Log Cabin Pancake House. When we arrived we expected at least an hour wait because the line wrapped quite a ways down the street. But after 25 minutes we were sitting at our table with coffee in hand. The meal was great and arrived to the table quickly and hot. Actually enjoying the wait was fun because they had antiques on the porch that brought memories of Old Forge.

Then it was off to find some views and sites. We decided that it was a day to do more riding than walking so we headed down Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. As we entered the park we noticed that there were workman cones setup and traffic coming to a slow crawl. That was because there were Forest Rangers keeping an eye on bears. We were able to see 3 of them but because of the lack of light, we were not able to get pictures. The rangers did not want any one to stop so we rolled by and enjoyed the sites. We did however enjoy a lot of mountain and valley views as well as streams and small water falls. Throughout the drive there were old buildings that we could stop and take pictures of.

Moonshine 8  But that was not the end of a busy day. After dinner we decided to head back into town to enjoy the evening and the sounds. We went to places like Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine  Holler@OleSmoky for music and experiences. Then we went into Beef Jerky Outlet to find a whole lotta BEEF.
It was a rainy night, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying the evening.
