Next Chapter

We have decided its time to take a step and see where God leads.

This year we officially started Bayne Custom Woodworking and launched a new website, https://baynecustomwoodworking.com

You can also follow along on Instagram @baynecustomwoodworking

I have not quit my day job but this will certainly be a step towards changing my office from pushing keys on a keyboard to a workbench and making saw dust. At present I get about 15 – 20 hours a week in the shop after work and on weekends.

I will continue to learn my craft by building custom furniture, toys and keepsakes. At some point we will be adding an Etsy site in order to sell some of the items. Please feel free to follow the new site. While I am sure that family pictures will pop in now and the, the purpose will be to promote the items I am building and the new processes I figure out.

I want to thank all of those who have followed this blog over the years and assure you that, for now, I will do my best to keep it updated with family events and happenings. I am sure there will be more pictures of grandchildren at some point.

God Bless

Roger Bayne

Quote

Words can never adequately convey the incredible impact of our attitude toward life. The longer I live the more convinced I become that life is 10 percent what happens to us and 90 percent how we respond to it.

I believe the single most significant decision I can make on a day-to-day basis is my choice of attitude. It is more important than my past, my education, my bankroll, my successes or failures, fame or pain, what other people think of me or say about me, my circumstances, or my position. Attitude keeps me going or cripples my progress. It alone fuels my fire or assaults my hope. When my attitudes are right, there’s no barrier too high, no valley too deep, no dream too extreme, no challenge too great for me.

Mothers Day

2014-05-11 13.24.56

30 years ago today, God decided that Moms work on earth was done. While we miss her, she left my 3 sisters and I the value of working hard and enjoying life. While the 4 of us approach each one of those aspects differently, we do both because Mom taught us how by example.
For those lessons I say, “thank you” mom. I look forward to the day when I see you in that Glorified body with a full head of hair that was stolen by the cancer. I bet God has replaced those false teeth with original equipment as well.

Happy Mothers Day to Becky’s mom, who stepped up on her birthday that day 30 years ago, and every  day since, to fill the void. Happy Birthday too.

Happy Mothers day to my Bride for being an awesome Mama to our children. As my mother did for us, Becky has taught Sarah and Jeremy those values very well.

Happy FIRST Mothers day to Sarah. Elise is blessed to have you. You make a great mom.

Dr. J. Dwight Pentecost

Dr. J. Dwight Pentecost (1915–2014)

I never had the opportunity to hear this man speak or teach in person, but have learned much from him over the years via the internet and books.  If I can be 1/32 the man of God he was, then I will count myself as successful.

I look forward to the day I can shake his hand in Glory! Heaven will be filled with many more saints because of the lives that he has touched.

Easter comes to an end, but the promise never does

Another day celebrating the Resurrection of our Savior! We celebrate this day to recognize that our God is not dead, that He is alive. Waiting for the day when He will call those of us that have trusted Him as Lord and Savior home for eternity. No more rosacea, arthritis, migraines, sore eyes or backs, cancer, adhd, etc.… Come Lord Jesus, Come.

This day also gives me another day to brag about my kids,, I admire the young adults they have grown into, but no matter how old they get, they will always be my kids.

Today we had the pleasure of enjoying the sunshine and dinner with Jeremy and Ashley. They are very busy working with the Getty’s and Getty Music. It’s nice to be able to hear about their travels and experiences. Even though they are only 20 minutes from us, we don’t get to see them as often as we like.  We got to hear the projects they are working on or planning for their house. They are doing a wonderful job keeping up with the house even with their busy schedules. They are a beautiful couple, deeply in love.

Dave and Sarah were able to spend the Easter weekend with Sarah’s cousin Johnathan CoyneJohnathan plays football for the Valpo Crusaders. John and Elise seem to hit it off well.

Stress and Rest

I have spent the last 4 days reading a devotional series “Stress and Rest” by Chuck Swindoll.  Yeah I don’t do either well at all.

But he ended the 4 part series with the statements below. (I don’t do these well either)

Just felt like sharing

God continues to hold out to all His children a peaceful, worry-free lifestyle that we can enter into on a moment-by-moment basis.

Will it happen automatically? No, we are instructed to "be diligent to enter that rest." What does that mean? Simply this:

  1. We acknowledge that our God is in full control of our lives. No accidents or surprises occur. He calls the shots.
  2. We take Him at His Word. We believe His promises (the Bible is full of them—by the hundreds).
  3. We claim them by faith. We apply them to our particular circumstance almost as if God were speaking directly to us this very moment.
  4. We rest in Him. We consciously refuse to worry or fret over how He is going to work things out. By entering into that rest, we cease from our own works just as deliberately as our Creator-God ceased from His works on the seventh day of the creative week.
  5. We continue in that calm frame of mind until God sovereignly intervenes and solves the problem. We keep trusting in Him with all our hearts. And every time an alien thought of anxiety flits through our minds, we turn it over to the Lord in prayer.

This is perhaps the best way to explain one of my favorite verses, Psalm 46:10:

Cease striving and know that I am God.

Thanks Chuck

Christmas Tie Tradition

While I am  not one for traditions, I have tried to keep up one that was started at Syracuse University by the man who took the biggest risk on me in this business, Stuart Williams.

Starting the Monday after Thanksgiving through the beginning of Christmas break, he would wear a different Christmas tie.

I have been wearing my ties here at Emdeon this year and going somewhat unnoticed until the last couple of days. I have had multiple chances to relay the story of carrying on the tradition of a man that I respect very much. The best comment came this morning from a very unexpected source. This person stopped at my desk and had to see todays tie. He asked me why I wear them and I explained the story to him. He got a big smile and said ”I like that story, good for you”.

The only tradition I have not carried on is the Mistletoe bow tie. Because, that is “Stuart”

Not your typical Fathers Day Sermon

While I should know better by now, it always amazes me how God puts people in my path and then allows us to discover that we share Him in common.
I’ve had the privilege to get to know John Clough, not only as my HP rep, but as a Brother in Christ.
John and his family live in Atlanta, but thanks to today’s technology, we are able stay in touch and to get to know each other personally.

John had the privilege to tag team with his son and speak at their church this past Fathers Day Sunday.
Of course, John being the proud father, he shared that with me and has allowed me to share it on my blog.

In Johns words “It was really the best father’s day ever, and very proud”
I believe He has every right to be…

So without further adieu.. enjoy John & Bennett Clough and how they are being used by God

Memorial Day

Today we spend honoring those that gave their lives’ for the FREEDOM we enjoy. While some think the cliché’ “Freedom is not Free” is used too often, I disagree, and I can, because I am the writer of this blog and I have the freedom to my opinion, “Freedom is not Free”! – it always comes at a heavy price.

So while we enjoy a day away from our jobs to spend with our families and friends, remember to fly that flag high in memory of those that gave us the freedom to grill those burgers and dogs!

Lest I forget another important part, remember the families of those that paid this price for us. Some are waking this morning with that loved one gone. They need to be thanked and remembered as well. Thank you!
